Great Britain U16 will take part in a tournament in Czech Republic next month following the cancellation of their trip to Barcelona.

After Poland and Hungary advised the Spanish organisers that they would not be able to attend, the four-team competition was called off.

Ice Hockey UK moved quickly to find a suitable alternative and GB U16 will now be involved in a tournament in Melnik.

The competition will also involve junior teams from Czech Republic, Sweden and Finland and will run from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th April.

Ice Hockey National Development Head Coach, Tony Hand, said: “It is fantastic that the under-16s will still be attending a tournament.

“I’d like to thank the organisers in Czech Republic, as well as the various teams taking part, for inviting GB to be part of this.

“These junior sides will be tough opposition with teams coming from three great ice hockey nations in Sweden, Finland and Czech Republic.

“It will be a great experience for the GB youngsters and one I am sure they will take a lot from.”
