Great Britain Women U18 beat Australia 3-2 in their final group game at the World Championship Division 1 Qualification in Radenthein.

GB have won two of their three group games and now face-off against Kazakhstan for the bronze medal on Monday.

After early pressure and chances for Katie Marsden, Lucy Gruber and Shannon Douglas, GB took the lead after four minutes as Beth Milne tipped in a shot from Charlotte Edgar.

A scrappy spell followed and Australia grew into the game, with Izzy Wallace denying Natalie Ayris on the powerplay.

At the start of the second period, Wallace made a good save from Christiam Hall to keep GB in front and then kept out Aryis’ shot on anther Australia powerplay.

Beth Barwell saw her shot saved from left point, while Lizzie Saunders had two chances on the same shift.

Wallace produced a great low glove save to deny Isla Malcolm and then Gruber was denied at the other end.

GB finally got the second when Marsden set up Casey Traill who fired top shelf past Keesha Atkin five minutes into the final period.

A third goal followed 78 seconds later as Abbie Sylvester’s shot from right point deflected in off an Australian skate.

Kate Tihema scored Australia’s first-ever goal at U18 World Championship level after 48 minutes with a fine strike through traffic from the slot – the goal coming on a five-on-three powerplay.

Tihema scored her second following a scramble around the goalmouth in the final minute, but GB held on for their second victory.
