Belfast Giants and Sheffield Steelers have reached an agreement over compensation following the postponement of the game between the two sides at the SSE Arena last month.

The match, which should have been played on Friday 23rd October, was cancelled to accommodate a One Direction concert which was moved at short notice.

Belfast Giants head of hockey operations, Steve Thornton, said: “We are pleased that this matter has been resolved. We would like to thank the fans for their understanding and look forward to hosting the rescheduled game.”

Tony Smith, owner of Sheffield Steelers, said: “I am still very annoyed at the course of action the Belfast owners took in cancelling a game at such short notice.

“We have to move on though and at the board meeting yesterday the league decided that this was the best way forward. It took some time but in the end we got the fans some compensation and that was our number one priority.”

A new date for the fixture will be confirmed in due course.
