Malcolm Cameron’s time as head coach of the Glasgow Clan is over, the club has announced.

Cameron departs the Clan after a run of sixteen consecutive defeats, with Glasgow rooted to the bottom of the Elite League and eliminated from the Challenge Cup.

The 53-year-old was appointed ahead of last season and overcame fixture congestion to lead the club to a sixth-place finish.

However, Cameron’s position quickly became untenable this term, with the fallout from the Lasse Uusivirta acquisition, poor on-ice results, and fan protests combining to end his tenure.

The Clan have not confirmed whether Cameron was fired or he resigned.

In a statement, a club spokesperson wrote: “Results in the early part of this season have been very disappointing and the club are now exploring possible options to succeed him and take the Clan forward. We would like to place on record our thanks to Malcolm for his contribution to our organisation over the past 16 months.”

Stephen Dixon, who started the season as a player-assistant coach, will take over as interim head coach, with forward Dyson Stevenson acting as his assistant.

The Clan return to the ice on Saturday [29 October] for the visit of the Manchester Storm.

Explained: Malcolm Cameron’s demise with the Glasgow Clan

Inevitable is the word most would use to describe Malcolm Cameron’s split from the Glasgow Clan. It felt like a matter of when, not if, his relationship with the club would come to a sour end.

Firstly, the table doesn’t lie.

The Clan’s current run of defeats is tied for the third-longest in Elite League history, with back-to-back fixtures versus the Belfast Giants on the horizon. The franchise also saw talented netminder Zach Driscoll leave for the ECHL’s Indy Fuel just weeks into a one-year contract.

Cameron’s position was also weakened by the suspension he was handed during the club’s investigation into the signing of Lasse Uusivirta. Although the Canadian was later reinstated, the controversy strained his relationship with Glasgow fans to an irredeemable level.

The Clan must now recruit a general manager and head coach. They cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes.
