Cardiff Devils’ forward Matthew Myers says the first day of training camp was impressive as Great Britain prepare for two international matches against Poland this weekend.

GB’s 28-man squad met in Coventry on Tuesday and had two on-ice sessions yesterday, before returning to the ice on Thursday.

Both sides play in their respective World Championship tournaments later this month, with GB hosting the Division 1B competition in Belfast.

Myers said: “We had two good intense training sessions and everyone looked impressive out there.

“It was great to get the GB boys back together and there is always a good spirit when we are out on the ice together.

“We battle hard all season long against each other, but the bond between us is fantastic and training already is a great place to be.

“We are looking forward to taking on Poland. They are a fantastic side and these two matches are always fun to play in.”

Both games will be available to watch live on a webcast.

The teams go head-to-head at Nottingham’s National Ice Centre on Friday (7.30pm) and the Skydome in Coventry on Saturday (1.00pm)

GB general manager Andy Buxton said: “GB-Poland games are always great to watch and we have built up a special rivalry.

“If you can’t get to the game, this is the perfect way to follow the action.”
