Reigning NIHL North Moralee D1 champions Blackburn Hawks have confirmed the signing of Slovakian forward Jozef Istocy.

The 24-year-old has spent the majority of his career in his homeland, in addition to a season in Poland in 2012/13.

Last year he iced for HK Spisska Nova Ves in Slovakia 2, where he scored 10 goals with 11 assists in 42 games.

Hawks’ boss Steve Duncombe said: “I’m really happy to have Jozef in with us – we looked at several options to strengthen the team, and we all agreed a quality import at this time would be a great addition.

“Jozef was right up there on our lists – lots of work has gone in behind the scenes to get the deal done, and I appreciate the input and help I’ve had from the guys.

“I know the boys will be happy to have him in the room and they’ll make him more than welcome.”

Istocy added: “I’m glad that I can play for the Hawks – I heard they have great fans and I hope to be beneficial to the team.

“It’s my first time in England and I’m really looking forward to it.”
