Liam Kirk’s start to the season for Peterborough Petes has seen him reach double figures after picking up three goals and two assists in the last week.

The former Sheffield Steelers forward ended the weekend nine points from the top with three more solid displays as he continues to make his mark in the OHL.

He began the week with a goal and an assist in a 4-0 shutout win over Saginaw Spirit on the road, with all goals coming in the third period as he scored the second – the insurance marker – after being set up by Nick Robertson.

Then he helped with the third, providing a secondary assist as Mason McTavish found the net to make it 3-0 and ensure what turned into a one-sided scoreline by the end.

After the win on Wednesday, the Petes were looking for a third straight win when they headed to Sarnia Sting and Kirk led the way with two goals and an assist in a 6-3 win.

The GB international opened the scoring for Peterborough to put them in front inside the opening four minutes before assisting for Robertson, who restored the lead later in the period to make it 2-1.

Kirk then added the fifth on the empty net to secure the result and earned the second star of the game to make the weekend a little better for Rob Wilson’s side.

The third game didn’t go so well as Petes were beaten 6-2 by Flint Firebirds, with Kirk failing to add to his tally for the week and for the season so far.

His 11 points, comprising of seven goals and four assists is an improvement on last year when Liam had only two goals and two assists to show for his first nine games in the OHL.

Petes face another three game week when they host Hamilton Bulldogs on Thursday night (Friday AM in the UK) in their first regular game of the season on home ice as they look to bounce back from Sunday’s loss.

Then it’s back on the road to the TD Place on Friday (12 midnight Saturday in the UK) when Petes head to Ottawa 67’s before facing in-form Oshawa Generals at Tribute Communities Centre on Sunday, a team with nine straight wins going into the weekend.
