Matt Ginn has hailed the arrival of the Manchester Storm’s latest signing, 25-year-old centreman Jake Bricknell.

The Canadian arrives at Planet Ice Altrincham after registering nine points (three goals, six assists) in 39 ECHL appearances during his rookie professional season.

Quizzed on Bricknell’s entrance, head coach Ginn said: “Jake possesses a really heavy shot; he has a great release and enjoys putting pressure on the opposition crease. I feel like we have unearthed a hidden gem with boundless potential to make an impact on a nightly basis for our line-up.”

Before making his senior bow, the Port Perry-born forward enjoyed a successful major junior career in the Ontario Hockey League. He registered 42 points (19 goals, 23 assists) in 205 games for the Belleville Bulls, Hamilton Bulldogs, and Guelph Storm between 2013 and 2017.

Bricknell captained the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Aurora Tigers in the 2017-18, amassing 99 points (35 goals, 64 assists) in 53 outings en route to being named to the First All-Star Team. The Tigers also enjoyed a deep playoff run, with the right-shooter accumulating 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) in 16 games.

Buoyed by his success in the OJHA, Bricknell committed to Ontario Tech University’s hockey programme, producing 48 points (20 goals, 28 assists) in 51 USports appearances.

Matt Ginn’s Verdict on Jake Bricknell:

Ginn, who will make his coaching debut this season, has backed the 6-foot-1 forward to make an immediate impression in the Elite League.

“Jake is a power forward that enjoys finishing his checks and takes pride in his d-zone work,” he explained. “He is going to be really effective on the forecheck in our rink and will enjoy throwing his weight around. Our franchise has had some outstanding power forwards and I am confident in Jake continuing in this lineage.”
