Manchester Storm have made two new additions to their roster ahead of the 2025/26 season, bringing in Guildford Flames defenceman Kyle Locke and highly-rated British forward Rais Francis.

Locke has been a standout performer in the Elite League for a number of seasons, featuring more than 150 times for Guildford Flames since his debut in 2021.

The 29-year-old Canadian, who began his professional career in the UK following four years at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (USports), quickly became a dependable figure on the Flames’ blueline.

“Kyle is a player we’ve admired for some time,” newly-appointed Manchester Storm head coach Cam Critchlow said.

“His experience in this league, combined with his physical style and leadership, makes him a perfect fit for our group. We’re excited to welcome him to Manchester.”

Storm land talented Brit

Another new face has arrived in Manchester, in the shape of 6’6 forward Francis.

He most recently featured for Salem State University in the NCAA III, having enjoyed a strong collegiate programme in the United States.

Across his collegiate career, Francis featured in 62 games, contributing 32 points (13 goals and 19 assists) and playing a key role at both ends of the ice.

Originally from Nottingham, Francis honed his skills with the Ontario Hockey Academy.

“Rais is a player who brings a lot of upside and potential,” head coach Critchlow added.

“His time in the NCAA has prepared him well for the professional level, and we’re excited to see a young, talented British player like Rais contribute on and off the ice.

“We are lucky to have him in a Storm jersey this season. He’s hungry, coachable and ready to make an impact.”

Joining the club ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, he made 54 appearances and tallied six points.

In recent seasons, he has featuring more than 300 times in the Elite League, representing Manchester, Guildford Flames, Nottingham Panthers and MK Lightning.

Ahead of next season, it has been confirmed that he will link up with Planet Ice NIHL National Division side Swindon Wildcats, who he previously represented back in 2015/16.

Paying tribute to the outgoing Griffiths, a Manchester Storm statement read: “Throughout the season, he showed professionalism, grit and dedication every time he hit the ice.

“We thank Griff and wish him nothing but success in the future – once a Storm player, always a Storm player.”
