Sheffield Steelers have confirmed the signing of forward Matt Marquardt.

The 29-year-old spent last season with Elite League rivals Coventry Blaze and prior to this played over 500 games in the AHL and ECHL in North America.

Marquardt said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Steelers. When one of your best friends plays there (Mathieu Roy) and keeps telling you how good an organisation it is, how good the training is, the facilities and the attention to detail is, you can’t help but want a piece of that.

“I want to be pushed, I want to work hard and I want to win. After speaking several times to Paul Thompson I was delighted he was keen on me being a part of that.

“I’d like to think I fit in well with the Steelers style of play. I can play in both ends of the rink, I skate well and can score. I can play a physical game as well.”
