Forward Matthew Myers says facing Poland twice at the weekend will get Great Britain well prepared for the World Championship in Zagreb.

GB face Poland at the National Ice Centre on Saturday (7.30pm) and the two sides also will battle it out at the Skydome on Sunday (5.15pm).

The matches are part of GB and Poland’s preparations for their respective World Championship tournaments.

Myers, who helped Nottingham Panthers win the Elite League play-offs at last weekend, said: “Poland are strong opposition and we always have great games against them.

“We had two brilliant battles with them last season and they were so good to play in.

“We did well in both games and they then came close to promotion to the elite level at their World Championship.

“They are a talented side and it will give us good preparation for Zagreb.

“We’ve had a good start to training camp and all the guys are exciting about getting into match action.”

Poland host the Division 1A World Championship later this month, while GB travel to Croatia for the Division 1B tournament from 17th to 23rd April.

As well as facing the hosts, GB come up against Estonia, Lithuania, Romania and Ukraine.

“It’s another tough group but one we can compete in,” added Myers.

“We showed last year that we are a good side at this level and came close to promotion.

“All the boys are focused and want to go one better this year.”
