Lloyd Gibson was the star of the show as Sutton Sting resisted a spirited fightback by Billingham Stars to secure victory in NIHL North Moralee D1.

Gibson’s hat-trick put Sting 3-0 in front, but the Stars fought back to level the game through Dennis Bostrom (2) and Michael Elder.

However, the home team wouldn’t be denied and Gibson bagged his fourth of the game to seal a 4-3 win.

Struan Tonnar (5) topped the scoring for Solway Sharks in their 6-1 victory at Telford Tigers NIHL, and the Dumfries outfit followed up with a 4-1 success at Solihull Barons to maintain their 100% record.

In the Northern Cup, Dean Holland’s penalty shot 13 seconds from time sealed a 7-6 home success for Whitley Warriors against Blackburn Hawks.

Sheffield Senators closed the gap on Laidler D2 leaders Blackburn Eagles to four points with an impressive 3-0 road victory over their title rivals.

Daniel Hazeldine (3) led the way for Nottingham Lions as they won 9-3 at Hull Jets, while Ollie Barron weighed in with a couple of goals in Widnes Wild’s 4-2 home success against Altrincham Aces.
