Whitley Warriors moved to within five points of NIHL1 North Moralee D1 leaders Blackburn Hawks after picking up a pair of victories.

David Longstaff (above) and Adam Reynolds got the goals as Warriors won 2-1 at Solway Sharks, and Longstaff was on target again in their 3-1 success at home to Sheffield Spartans – Joe Stamp and Jamie Tinsley were the other scorers.

Sharks bounced back from the Warriors loss to record a 7-4 victory at Billingham Stars – Martin Cingel (2) topped their scoring.

Hawks endured mixed fortunes, winning 10-0 on home ice against the Stars before crashing 8-4 at play-off chasing Solihull Barons.

That result completed an excellent weekend for Perry Doyle’s team, who also defeated the Spartans 2-1 in Sheffield.

Sutton Sting secured four points from their weekend double-header against Sheffield Senators, winning 7-2 and 7-3 against the league’s bottom team.

In Laidler D2, Scott McKenzie (3), Geoff Wigglesworth (2) and Shaun Dippnall (2) led the scoring for Widnes Wild as they ran out 8-5 winners at Bradford Bulldogs.

Luke Thomas, Rob Perks, Samuel Jackson and Dan Hazeldine were on target as Nottingham came from 2-0 down at Coventry Blaze to win 4-2, but Lions failed to follow up on home ice as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Altrincham Aces.
