Sheffield Steelers claimed a narrow 3-2 win against arch rivals Nottingham at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday evening.

Forward Matt Marquardt put the Steelers ahead in the 13th minute, with team captain Jonathan Phillips doubling the advantage late in the period to but the South Yorkshire side in the driving seat.

Nottingham hit back early in the second period, Zack Phillips firing home, but a late powerplay goal from Team GB forward Robert Dowd restored the Steelers two goal cushion before the second intermission.

Josh Shalla struck for the Panthers seven minutes from the end, but goaltender Ervins Mustukovs – who made 46 saves in total – and the Steelers defence held firm to help extend their lead at the top of Challenge Cup Group A.
