A third period three-goal blitz by Nottingham Panthers ensured a home win as they defeated Edinburgh Capitals 5-2 at the Motorpoint Arena.

The Panthers got the opening goal after 14 minutes when a shot from Tim Billingsley came off Caps goalie Pavel Shegalo and landed behind him and into the net.

However the visitors drew level towards the end of the opening period as Juris Upitis blasted one past Patrick Galbraith in the Panthers goal and the teams were even.

Corey Neilson’s side retook the lead in the second through a moment of magic by Alexander Mokshantsev, but the Capitals were level again by the end of the middle period.

Mike Cazzola was the man on the scoresheet and once again, both sides ended the period even stevens.

Mokshantsev buried his second of the game to kick off the flurry of goals that would prove to be Edinburgh’s undoing.

Then Erik Lindhagen opened the gap to two goals shortly after as the Caps caved, with Brett Perlini adding a fifth for good measure to secure a comfortable win in the end.
