Nottingham Panthers wrapped up a four-point weekend on home ice, putting in a sensational performance to beat fellow title contenders Belfast at the Motorpoint Arena.

After Saturday night’s shootout victory in Sheffield, the Panthers took the lead after less than two minutes when Team GB forward Robert Farmer and Josh Shalla combined to set up Brett Perlini.

Six minutes later it was 2-0 to the home side, Tim Billingsley the scorer, before Mark Derlago further extended the lead in the 14th minute – Evan Mosey collecting an assist on both goals.

The Panthers period was not finished however, Yann Sauve blasting one past Giants goaltender Jackson Whistle to round out a tremendous twenty minutes for the East Midlands side.

The offensive antics continued into the second frame, Mosey converting from close range after Whistle had stopper Derlago’s initial effort.

Belfast finally got on the board as Brendan Connolly gave the Giants fans something to cheer about before Mosey’s deflection was eventually given following a review by the officials.

The visitors cut the deficit in the third period – Sebastien Sylvestre scoring in the 54th minute before combining with Connolly to set up Jonathan Ferland in the dying seconds –  but they proved to be little more than consolation efforts as Nottingham claimed the points.
