Sheffield Steelers defenceman Ben O’Connor is living the dream as he gets ready to begin another Winter Olympic qualifying campaign.
The 31-year-old will play a key role for Pete Russell’s men when the tournament begins in Nottingham today, with GB taking on Romania in their opener.
And O’Connor, taking part in his fourth Olympic competition, is taking nothing for granted against the quality of opposition that awaits, with Estonia and Hungary to come over the weekend.
“It is every athlete’s dream to play in the Olympics and it is fantastic we have a chance to qualify every four years,” he said.
“We know a tough task awaits us in the next few days as there are no easy games at international level.
“It’s great to see all the GB boys again. Most of us battle against each other all season long, but then we just click when we meet to put on the Great Britain shirt.
“As ever, the spirit in the camp is good and we all focused for our first game against Romania.”
