Hull Pirates have confirmed the signing of forward Andrej Themar.

The 27-year-old has spent the large majority of his career in his native Slovakia, playing in the top two leagues.

Themar spent last season with Moss Hockey in Norway, posting 33 goals with 37 assists in just 35 appearances.

“I’m really looking forward to playing for Hull Pirates next season,” said Themar.

“I expect that we will have a good season for the fans to watch. I would say that I am a skilled player with a strong shot as well.

“I really hope we are going to play for the highest places and make the play-offs.”

Player/Coach Dominic Osman added: “When I first came across his name, (Stanislav) Lascek was someone who he’d talked to me quite a bit about, and in the group of players in the imports that we are looking at, he definitely fits the bill.

“The more I spoke to him, the more I was impressed with him. He wants to win and he wants to play as a team.

“At the same time, he’s a guy who can put up the numbers. He’s a guy who will be counted on for offense, but I really do believe he is also going to play well defensively.

“He is import four, but he’s going to be a very important player and will be called upon for the offensive side.

“Anytime you can put up 70 points in a season is obviously a great thing. We really hope he carries that momentum over to this season. It’s a great thing to have him on board.”
