Hull Pirates have confirmed the signing of experienced defender Martin Ondrej.

The 33-year-old previously iced in the EPL for Telford Tigers for two seasons, but joined Slovakian outfit HC Presov during the summer.

Ondrej is no stranger to Hull, having played for the Stingrays in the Elite League for three years.

Player/Coach Dominic Osman said: “Signing Marty is a no-brainer – hands down, he’s a guy who can get it done back there.

“He’s as strong as an ox and hits like a truck and makes a great first pass, that’s all we need from our import ‘D’. He will be counted on to put up a lot of minutes.

“I talked to him over the summer – we were not able to come to an agreement, but we have been able to now. I think Marty realises we have a team that wants to win and he’ll help us to do that.

“He has loads of experience, he’s played in the Elite League, he’s won a championship in this league and he knows what it takes to get the job done.

“He knows he doesn’t have to do anything outstanding and out of the ordinary.”
