Telford Tigers have confirmed their first import signing of the summer with the addition of Polish international netminder Ondrej Raszka to next season’s squad.

The 26-year-old will arrive in Shropshire with two Polish championships on his CV, while last season he posted an impressive .928 save percentage for MMKS Podhale Nowy Targ.

Tigers’ boss Tom Watkins said: “Ondrej has been playing at a good level for some time, and at the right end of a very good Polish league.

“He’s played a lot of games over the last two seasons and posted some very good stats.

“He has good experience of competing at a good level and also playing in the Continental Cup with Cracovia Kraków.

“Goaltending is the most important position in the team. Ondrej will give us an opportunity to win every night and a platform to challenge for a title.

“He’s a big guy, has good size and moves very well. At 26 we have a guy at a great age and a desire to improve.

“Every team that finished above us last season had an import goalie. I think this is the most important signing we will make this summer.

“Having an import goalie does affect what you can do with your remaining import slots, but I’m sure we will have a good balance between our offense and defense.”
