Craig Moore isn’t done with the Dundee Stars — the Kirkcaldy-born defenceman has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension with the Elite League side.

The 29-year-old recorded seven points (three goals, four assists) in 58 appearances last term, helping Dundee finish eighth and qualify for the playoff quarter-finals.

Moore, a product of the Ontario Hockey Academy, made his Elite League debut in 2015 — and has since made 401 appearances for the Stars, Cardiff Devils, Fife Flyers, Glasgow Clan, and Nottingham Panthers.

“The thing we want to have in our team is players than can move the puck well and Craig can do that, he is never out of place and the guys all love him in the room, which always helps because when you have good people around the organisation, it is easy to bring them back,” said Stars head coach Marc Lefebvre.

“He knows how we want to play and we are excited to have him back again.”

After committing to a seventh season with the Stars, Moore added: “I am super excited to be staying in Dundee.

“I think we fell a little short on what we wanted to accomplish this year, with getting to the final four but hopefully this season we can build a good team and push on further.

“Continuity is a good thing, I have played for Marc for nearly all my years in Dundee – minus one or two – so it is good to know what you are coming back to and what is expected of you.

“I know that he always recruits a good group of guys and hopefully this next year will be the same and we can have a really good team that will get to the final four.”

Analysis: Craig Moore inks Dundee Stars contract extension

Craig Moore is the fourth player to re-sign with the Dundee Stars, following the retention of Drydn Dow, Jarrett Fiske, and Jonathan McBean.

The Scotsman, set for his eleventh season of Elite League action, is a third-pair staple, pairing limited offensive instincts with solid defensive play.

Capable of playing penalty-kill minutes in a pinch, Moore fills an important area of need as a right-shot defenceman.

“We are really happy to have Craig with us for another year,” continued Lefebvre, “he is a veteran British player now and I think when I switched him back on to defence, we could see how well he played after that.

“We tried him at forward at the start of the year but he is a defenseman at heart, he skates really well and is a right-handed Brit, which a lot of teams are coveting.

“He brings a lot of energy and he just gets better all the time, obviously he is a bit older now but he still excels on our backend.”
