Edinburgh Capitals have secured the services of Russian netminder Pavel Shegalo.

The 24-year-old arrives from Belarus side Metallurg Zhlobin, where he made over 60 appearances during the last two seasons.

He has previously iced in the VHL, Russia’s second tier, and also represented his country at U18 level.

Capitals’ boss Dmitri Khristich said: “Shegalo is a young goalie. We had a phone call and I like his spirit.

“This is a guy with the right attitude. He used to be a team leader and now he wants to further his ambitions in a new league.”

Shegalo added: I’m happy to be in the team and in a new league for me.

“I will try to do the best to win as many matches as possible for the team and for the fans of the city of Edinburgh.”
