Steelers add recruit to cover injuries

Steelers Orange, British Ice Hockey

Sheffield Steelers have announced the signing of Czech defensemen Marek Troncinsky.

Head coach Aaron Fox has signed the experienced 31-year-old to cover injuries to both Aaron Johnson and Jonas Liwing. Troncinsky has played 93 KHL and 575 Czech Extraliga games.

“Marek is a D who has played well at the highest levels in Europe and felt like it was an easy decision once conversations started with his representation,” Fox told the club’s official website.

“He can play a physical, gritty defensive game and also skates well and has some offensive upside as he led all Dmen in scoring in the Czech Extraliga in 17-18.

“He should help us in all situations and felt like he was the best overall Dman that had been offered. I’m looking forward to getting him this week and ready for the weekend”.

The 31-year-old will be available this weekend, as the Steelers take on Nottingham Panthers in the Challenge Cup.
