Sheffield Steelers have confirmed forward Mathieu Roy has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

Roy has enjoyed three excellent seasons with the Steelers, scoring 94 goals with 93 assists in 162 games to help the club to two regular season titles and victory in this year’s play-offs.

“It’s fun to win here with this organisation and I’m happy to commit for another two seasons here,” said Roy.

“I see no reason why we can’t compete and win for the next two years as well. I’m sure Thommo (Paul Thompson) will put a competitive team on the ice once again and we will challenge in all competitions.

“It’s fun to play here in Sheffield. There is a winning mentality here, a focus and a desire. It is infectious and I want more of it.

“It’s nice to have the contract concluded early, so I can return home rest up and then start on preparation for next season – another great one for the club I’m sure.”
