Sheffield Steelers have confirmed that head coach Paul Thompson and his assistant Jerry Andersson have signed new two-year contracts with the club.

Thompson joined the Steelers in 2015, winning the Elite League title during his first season in charge.

After ending the 2016/17 campaign third in the table, the Steelers secured the play-off title with victory over Cardiff Devils.

Thompson said: “This is a big job, but also a gratifying one. We have a great fan base and I’m blessed with an incredible staff that share my motivation and work ethic to make the Steelers the best club we can.

“Our players are a committed group and we have a strong core of guys already returning next season. They care, they work incredibly hard and are determined to continue this club’s winning ways.”

In addition to Thompson and Andersson penning new deals, the club have also confirmed that Zack Fitzgerald, John Armstrong, Robert Dowd, Levi Nelson, Luke Ferrara, Liam Kirk and Cole Shudra are all under contract for the season ahead.

Captain Jonathan Phillips agreed a further year with the Steelers last week.
