Sheffield Steelers have boosted their forward ranks with the signing of Markus Nilsson from Troja-Ljungby.

Nilsson, who has played over 200 games in the Allsvenskan, replaces Fredrik Vestberg on the Steelers’ roster after it was confirmed he was returning home to Sweden.

Steelers’ boss Paul Thompson said: “Markus is a mini Fredrik – someone both Jerry (Andersson) and I know well.”

“Jerry has worked with him for years and I coached him at Troja during my time there.

“Both Jerry and I spoke about what we needed, we talked about Markus and agreed he would be perfect for us.

“Jerry went round to see him and opened up negotiations. He is looking for a new opportunity and we are delighted he has chosen us.

“He has an incredible work ethic and is highly skilled. This is a perfect fit for both club and player and I think our fans will enjoy what Markus brings every night.”
