Guildford Flames have secured the services of netminder Brian Stewart.

The 32-year-old is no stranger to the Elite League having spent the past three seasons with Coventry Blaze.

Flames will be one of the outsiders with Unibet for the Elite League title next term, but head coach Paul Dixon believes Stewart can help his team upset the odds.

“In just about every league Brian has played in he has been recognised among the top class of his peers at the position,” he said.

“He has been outstanding over a very consistent stretch of time and that is the kind of security we were looking for to start our first top flight season.

“Although size is not necessarily something all good goaltenders possess, Brian is a big man and covers a lot of net even before you get down to his athletic skills.

“On top of those assets we are told he is exceptionally competitive and that team success is his only concern.

“As we have said already we are fully aware of the difference between the EPL and the Elite league, so we are focused solely on trying to be competitive one night at a time.

“Brian is a crucial part of helping make that a reality and we are pleased to have sorted a deal with a player of his calibre.”
