Sting add more firepower

Sutton Sting forwards Richie Oliver (left) and Shaun Ashton have agreed another year with the club. Both averaged over a point per game in NIHL1 North last season and Sting boss Ian Johnson was delighted to secure the pair.

“Shaun and Richie have been awesome for us, they compliment each other so well. Ashy is the finesse forward with all the moves, but can be physical when needed,” said Johnson.

“Richie is strong and hits like a train. Re-signing of these two guys is an enormous step in the right direction for Sting for the new season.” Sting are also understood to be close to signing an import.

Simon Leach has stepped down as Billingham Stars’ Head Coach. Leach led the club to a trio of second placed finishes in all competitions last term, but has announced he won’t take charge for the 2013/14 season due to the amount of travel involved. It’s understood Whitley Warriors want Leach to return as their Head Coach, with talks having already taken place between the two parties.

Romford Raiders forward Shaun Yardley may be on his way to NIHL2 North with Solihull Barons. Coach Darren Bellerby is believed to have held talks with Yardley who could also be joined at Hobs Moat Road by Telford Tigers’ defenseman Tomas Janak. Barons netminder Sam Hewitt looks set to join Coventry Blaze, while Nottingham Lions forward Gareth O’Flaherty has stepped up to the EPL with the Tigers.
