Sutton Sting have boosted their roster ahead of their NIHL North season opener with the signing of Sergejs Jegorovs from Sheffield Senators.

The Latvian has enjoyed two prolific years in Laidler D2, notching 79 points in 55 games and helping Senators secure promotion to Moralee D1 last term.

Sting co-owner Ian Johnson commented: “Sergejs is a massive coup for our club, but joining us wasn’t an easy decision for him to make. He’s been well supported by Senators and is disappointed to be leaving them.

“However, he has his sights set on climbing the ladder and thought the opportunity offered to him by John Ross was a step in the right direction.

“This is just the signing our squad needed and we’ve worked hard to bring in Sergejs. Although it’s difficult signing a player from a team who’ve clearly looked after him, we’re really pleased to have Sergejs on board. He’s quick, talented and has a desire to win.

“Our roster is now complete and we need game time. It’s going to be tough but we feel this is the final piece of the jigsaw for our seventh season in senior hockey.”

Jegorovs will make his Sting debut on Sunday in their away fixture at Blackburn Hawks.
