Manchester Storm have confirmed the signing of Canadian forward Dane Byers.

The 31-year-old was drafted by New York Rangers in 2004 and has played over 550 games in the AHL.

Byers has also iced 14 times in the NHL with the Rangers and the Columbus Blue Jackets and spent last year in the DEL with Kolner Haie.

He will utilise one of the club’s MBA places at the University of Salford during the upcoming Elite League season.

Storm boss Ryan Finnerty said: “I’m delighted with the signing of Dane who’s a big power forward.

“Dane can play on any line, and will contribute. He’s a natural leader, having been a captain on four different AHL teams, and has three seasons worth of European experience.

“I’m excited to work with Dane and we thank the University of Salford for making this partnership happen.”
