Braehead Clan have announced the return of young British defender Zach Sullivan, who has signed a new contract for his fourth season.

The 22-year-old joined the club in 2014 from Basingstoke Bison and has gone on to make nearly 200 appearances in the Elite League.

“It was an easy choice to return for another year and since I first arrived three years ago, the club has always built towards bigger and better things,” said Sullivan.

“We’ve got a huge and amazing fanbase so making the choice was a no-brainer for me.

“Playing in Braehead Arena with a sell-out crowd where you can’t hear yourself think on the bench because the fans are so loud is always great for me.

“It gives you a rush and makes you want to go out and play better and really pushed you on to strive and perform for the supporters.

“The players don’t know who the new coach is going to be, but he’ll be coming a great set-up and will be good to push on to the silverware we all desperately want.

“Working with someone new will be a good thing and I’m looking forward to it when we know who it’s going to be.”

Clan Hockey and Operations Director Gareth Chalmers added: “Agreeing a new improved deal with Zach was an easy decision. Since joining from Basingstoke, Zach has progressed into a very solid and dependable defenceman for the organisation.

“When we brought him to the club, we knew he was always going to be a long term project for the club. Personally I’m delighted to have seen his progression and he’s now knocking on the door of the national team.

“Despite interest from other EIHL clubs, I’m delighted we’ve been able to come to an agreement.”
