Sheffield Steelers have confirmed the re-signing of Swedish forward Andreas Valdix.

Valdix moved to the Elite League from the EBEL’s HC Innsbruck last summer, going on to score 10 goals and 27 assists in 36 appearances for the club.

Two hand injuries kept Valdix out of the squad during the course of last season, but he says he’s fit and raring to go ahead of the new campaign.

He said: “I had a great year in Sheffield – winning the championship in Nottingham was a fantastic feeling. I’m so happy we have been able to put this deal together for another year.

“The injury was frustrating but it’s a pitfall of the game, sometimes sticks break hands. I’m fully recovered and excited to jump on the plane and head back to Sheffield – it’s not long now.

“The aim is to win – win the league, that’s the big one in Sheffield. We came close last season and want to go better this coming year.”

Steelers’ boss Paul Thompson added: “Andreas had two hand injuries last season which curtailed his year a little.

“We expect him to come back and kick on, we are excited that he is returning. He is a premium player.

“His skating is at the elite level, his defensive play is very strong and as we saw last year he has an offensive upside as well. He is an intelligent and skilled forward.”
