Telford Tigers have strengthened their home-grown contingent with the signing of former Great Britain international Warren Tait.

The 35-year-old spent last season as captain of Hull Pirates in the EPL, having previously iced for a variety of Elite League teams including Cardiff Devils and Sheffield Steelers.

Head Coach Tom Watkins said: “Warren has played for some of the biggest teams in the country, as well as Great Britain, so he’s got a solid career behind him. He really stood out when we played Hull last season.

“You can never have enough recognised centremen in your team, and that’s what Warren is. He’s also versatile, so he can play on the wing, or even in defence.

“Warren is a strong skater and has a good work ethic. As captain of Hull and from his previous playing experience, he will of course add to a strong core group, both on and off the ice.

“I’ve known Warren for a long time and I’ve got a lot of respect for the way he plays. He competes and will give a reliable performance night in, night out.

“We want guys to fit roles and take on specific assignments. He is a strong defensive player and we will play him to his strengths.

“As a team who like to enjoy a lot of puck possession, it’s the centre’s responsibility to ensure we start with the puck after each face-off and be strong down low in the defensive zone. I think he ticks those boxes.”
