The Team GB Ice Hockey team is gearing up for several major events, including the Ice Hockey World Championships (IHWC) in May and qualifying for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics Ice Hockey.

Let’s dive straight in and take a closer look at some of the Great Britain ice hockey team’s upcoming fixtures and try to find out if they can win any of them.

When is the 2024 Ice Hockey World Championship?

The 2024 Ice Hockey World Championship, which is organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), is scheduled to run from May 10 to 26 at venues across Prague and Ostrava, in Czechia (the Czech Republic).

It will be the 87th edition of the tournament, which began in 1920. The current reigning champions, Canada, will be looking to further their record and win the event for an unprecedented 29th time.

Although Team GB have shown great promise in recent years, they are still the outsiders with the least favourable odds of winning on virtually all the safe and reliable betting sites online.

They will participate in the top division and face the odds-on favourites Canada in their opening game. They are also expected to play Finland, Switzerland, Denmark, Czechia, Norway, and Austria.

Here are some of their upcoming fixtures:

  • Date: Saturday, May 11. Time: 11.20 am. Place: Prague. Competition: IIHF World Championship. Fixture: Team GB vs. Canada
  • Date: Sunday, May 12. Time: 11.20 am. Place: Prague. Competition: IIHF World Championship. Fixture: Finland vs. Team GB
  • Date: Wednesday, May 15. Time: 7.20 pm. Place: Prague. Competition: IIHF World Championship. Fixture: Switzerland vs. Team GB
  • Date: Friday, May 17. Time: 3.20 pm. Place: Prague. Competition: IIHF World Championship. Fixture: Team GB vs. Denmark
  • Date: Saturday, May 18. Time: 7.20 pm. Place: Prague. Competition: IIHF World Championship. Fixture: Czechia vs. Team GB
  • Date: Monday, May 20. Time: 11.20 am. Place: Prague. Competition: IIHF World Championship. Fixture: Team GB vs. Canada
  • Date: Saturday, May 11. Time: 3.20 pm. Place: Prague. Competition: IIHF World Championship. Fixture: Team GB vs. Norway

If they progress past these early stages, they will have even more games to play, so we’ll just have to wait and see how far Team GB can progress.

Can Team GB win the 2024 IHWC?

The quickest, easiest, and most reliable way to find out if Team GB can win the upcoming IIHF World Championship outright would be to see what kind of odds are currently being offered for this particular market by today’s most trusted online bookmakers.

It doesn’t look good for Team GB at the time of writing.

They are currently the least favourite team to win, jointly priced with Poland at around 750/1 in the fractional odds format.

It’s the same as saying 751.00 in decimal odds and +75,000 in American/moneyline odds or that they have only a 0.10% implied probability rate of winning the 2024 IIHF World Championship outright.

In comparison, the current odds-on favourites to win, Canada, are currently priced at 2/1 ()3.00 or +200) with a 33.30% IPR (implied probability rate). You then have Finland at around 7/2, Sweden at around 5/1, and Czechia at around 13/2.

The other teams who will also be competing at this year’s World Championship are the United States, Switzerland, Germany, Latvia, Denmark, Norway, Kazakhstan, France, and Austria.

Final note

If you want to watch Team GB in action at the upcoming IIHF World Championship, you will have two options: You can watch the action unfold on your preferred Wi-Fi/internet-connected desktop computer, smart TV, tablet, laptop, or smartphone from some of today’s biggest sports streaming sites, or you can watch in person.

If you plan to travel to the Czech Republic, remember to book your tickets and accommodation from reputable websites in plenty of time.

If you decide to watch the action from your preferred device instead of travelling to watch them in person, try to avoid illegal streaming sites because not only is it against the law, but dodgy sites that show live sports can also infect your devices with malware, spyware, and viruses that can damage your device.
