Belfast Giants have confirmed Derrick Walser’s contract will not be extended into the 2017/18 season.

Walser leaves the club having having helped the Giants achieve the runners-up spot in the Elite League and semi-final finishes in the Challenge Cup and play-offs last season.

Steve Thornton, Giants’ Head of Hockey Operations, said. “I would like to thank Derrick for his hard work as head coach over the previous two seasons.

“I know how challenging the role can be and Derrick should be proud of his achievements in his first two years of coaching.

“We will endeavour to fill the position of Head Coach as soon as possible. Player recruitment is already underway for the 2017/18 season where competing for all Elite League trophies will be our main aim.”
