Belfast Giants have announced the signing of David Goodwin for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.

Goodwin will wear #64 for the Giants and is available for this weekend’s double header in Cardiff. The forward arrives in Belfast from Mora IK of Sweden after joining the Allsvenskan side in the off-season.

The 5’10” American played four seasons with the Penn State University program and captained the team throughout his final year in 2016/17. Goodwin left the program as the career scoring leader with 44 goals and 84 assists, good for 128 points in 147 games played.

Also in his final year, Goodwin helped Penn State win the Big Ten tournament title and a first-round NCAA playoff game against Union before falling to Denver in the regional finals.

Goodwin moved to Europe following graduation and joined SaiPa of the Finnish Elite League. He spent the previous two seasons in Finland and helped SaiPa to the playoffs both seasons – posting 25 goals and 36 assists, good for 61 points in 130 games played.

Adam Keefe on the signing of David Goodwin:

“We are still within striking distance of first place though we cannot continue in our current run of form. We are lacking offence right now and it is important for us to address it.

“Once we knew David was available, we wanted to bring him to Belfast. He will add quality and speed to our offence. We have to move forward and get back to work right away with important games ahead.”
