MK Lightning won the EPL Cup after seeing off a determined challenge from Peterborough Phantoms.

Lightning won the second leg of the final 3-0 to send the game to overtime following the Phantoms’ 2-1 success in the first meeting.

After a scoreless extra period the game went to overtime, where Adam Carr bagged the deciding goal to secure the trophy for Pete Russell’s team.

Champions Telford Tigers extended their winning run to sixteen games with a 3-1 home victory over Lightning in the league – Jason Silverthorn, Milan Kolena and Rick Plant got the goals.

Basingstoke Bison secured third place in the table with a pair of victories over Swindon Wildcats. Bison won 6-5 after overtime on the road and followed up with a 4-2 home success.

Peterborough ended the regular season in fourth after a 7-6 home win against Guildford Flames – Darius Pliskauskas (2) and James Ferarra (2) topped their scoring.

Sheffield Steeldogs had a disappointing weekend on the road, losing 5-2 at Guildford and 10-6 at Hull Pirates.

Alex Barker’s second goal of the game secured a 5-4 overtime success for Bracknell Bees at home to Hull.
