Cole Ully will skate for his third Elite League team in as many seasons, with the Canadian putting pen-to-paper on a one-year deal with the Guildford Flames.

The Calgary-born forward spent last season with the Glasgow Clan, recording 53 points (28 goals, 25 assists) in 51 regular-season appearances.

Ully first appeared in the Elite League as a member of the Cardiff Devils, for whom he posted 43 points (13 goals, 30 assists) in 44 games played in 2023-24.

The 30-year-old also boasts experience on the continent and in North America, including stops in the American Hockey League, ECHL, and Slovak Extraliga.

“Cole has proven himself as an offensive impact player in a variety of different leagues including ours,” said Flames head coach Paul Dixon.

“In back to back EIHL seasons he has repeated a point per game pace and has scored nearly 60 goals since coming to the UK — there is every reason to believe he will be able to help us improve our game on the production side.”

Analysis: Guildford Flames make shrewd Cole Ully signing

For the Elite League’s non-arena clubs, there is virtually zero margin for error.

They operate in a brutal sporting and financial landscape, in which relatively minor mistakes are punished and snowball into bigger problems.

In a world where shrewd management is rare, Paul Dixon’s leadership of the Guildford Flames remains exemplary.

Guildford’s roster is now seven players deep, with proven point-producer Cole Ully joining a core that already includes standout defenceman Jamal Watson and reliable homegrown contributors in Josh Waller and Lewis Hook.

Ully, a former fifth round pick of the Dallas Stars, will help the Flames on and off the ice.

“He has great breadth of experience from top end North American and European levels which enriches our mix of older and younger players,” said Dixon of his latest signing.

“We are happy to have Cole’s commitment to the new season and we look forward to getting started with him on our roster.”

Through two seasons in the Elite League, Ully has produced offence at a point-per-game rate, while accumulating only 35 penalty minutes and keeping above water in plus/minus.

The Calgary-born forward will comfortably slot into Dixon’s top-six and primary powerplay unit, providing a scoring touch from the left wing.

Signing players with (positive) Elite League experience is never a bad choice — this is just the latest smart signing by Dixon’s and the Flames.
