Zach Sullivan made his 400th Elite League appearance against former side Glasgow Clan earlier in the week.

He is currently #17 in the all-time appearances for British Defencemen, nine more and he could move higher.

He said of the achievement: “If you’d told me 8 years ago that I’d be playing my 400th game against Glasgow, during Pride week, as a publicly Bisexual ice hockey player I would’ve laughed at you”.

Coming Out

Sullivan came out as openly bisexual in January of 2020 and has spoken freely about his sexuality since then.

He’s now an ambassador for Athlete Ally a charity who are working to improve inclusivity in sport.

Something he is very passionate about especially with EIHL’s Pride Weekend coming soon.

One of his favourite memories came from a previous Pride Week: “the one memory I have, and will always cherish, was the Pride game we played the day I had decided to tweet about my sexuality.

“Just everything about the day was perfect; from my teammates treating me exactly the same way as they always had, to the fans and the result. The Dundee captain took the time to say some really nice things during the promotional puck drop as well”.

Career Highlights

Another highlight of his career was playing with Team GB in 2018: “being fortunate enough to be in the Team GB side that won the gold medal in Hungary to get promoted to the top tier of World Championships”.

A fantastic achievement for the side who managed to remain in the top division the following year as well.

Looking Forwards

Manchester Storm face Dundee Stars and then the high-flying Belfast Giants in the League, Sullivan is hopefully for these games: “I back the team to get 2 points”.

He doesn’t fancy his chances of scoring as highly though: “Personally, not a chance”.

The Brit was slightly more reserved with whether he sees the Storm beating Belfast, saying: “We will have to wait and see! It will be a great game I’m sure”.
