CHALLENGE CUP FINAL 2017 – CARDIFF 3 SHEFFIELD STEELERS 2

It was a second final in three years between these two teams as they both met in March 2017 to determine who would win the 2017 edition of the Challenge Cup Final.

Pre-game talk was marred by Sheffield Steelers coach Paul Thompson claiming Cardiff had an advantage as they didn’t play the night before, while Steelers hosted Coventry Blaze in the league.

As for the game itself, it was another full blooded affair between the two as they converged on Ice Arena Wales, but sadly, for the Steelers, they weren’t able to take the Challenge Cup for the first time since 2003.

Gleason Fournier scored to put the Devils ahead after just four minutes but Robert Dowd levelled soon after to set the tone for an excellent contest.

Steelers took the lead through Mathieu Roy to give them a lead after the first period, but Mark Louis restored parity for the Devils.

Layne Ulmer came up with the all-important winner at the start of the third period to give Cardiff Devils a third Challenge Cup win.
