Cardiff Devils have confirmed the return of defender Mark Richardson as he embarks on his delayed testimonial season.

Richardson signed a two-year deal last year and he kindly agreed to give up his big night for “The Matchka”, the charity game in support of Scott Matzka and his battle with ALS.

Devils’ managing director Todd Kelman admits he thought it was common knowledge Richardson would be icing for the club next season.

“I just figured people knew Mark was on a two-year deal and was back for 2017/18 when we postponed his testimonial until this season – but I guess I was wrong,” said Kelman.

“This isn’t like us at all, we prefer to milk every signing or re-signing possible, so what we are saying is that Mark is officially back and we’ll be announcing more information on his upcoming testimonial.”

Richardson scored 11 goals with 27 assists in 66 games last season and he ended the campaign by helping Great Britain secure promotion to World Championship (Division 1A).

His testimonial is expected to take place in October or November.
