Cardiff Devils have signed Canadian forward Layne Ulmer from Asiago HC.

Ulmer is the second player to join the Devils from the Italian outfit, following in the footsteps of Sean Bentivoglio.

The duo have been teammates and linemates for the past five years in Asiago, winning two league championships and two Italian Super Cups.

Ulmer, who scored 203 goals in 358 games for Asiago, has also made over 300 AHL appearances during his career and iced for the New York Rangers in the NHL back in 2003/04.

Player/Coach Andrew Lord said: “We wanted to add another top end natural centerman and Layne is the perfect fit.

“He obviously has five years of proven chemistry with Sean, which is going to make both of their transitions to this league that much smoother.

“Ulmer has put up big numbers on every team he has played on his entire career, going back to an incredible amateur career with the Swift Current Broncos.

“During his last seven seasons in Italy he’s been one of the top players and leading scorers in the league every year.”
