Swindon Wildcats have completed the signing of former Manchester Phoenix forward Robin Kovar.

The 32-year-old joined Phoenix back in 2013, having previously iced in the Czech Republic, North America, Slovakia and the Netherlands.

Kovar has been added to the Wildcats’ roster following the news that defender Mark Smith has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign due to injury.

Wildcats’ Player/Coach Aaron Nell said: “I’m delighted to be able to sign a player of Robin’s quality for the remainder of the season.

“It’s all happened very quickly since we found out about Mark’s injury, but it’s an important move for the team to get back to full strength import wise.

“Robin has played in this country for a while now so we know what we are getting. He’s really going to help us offensively – he’ll bring a lot of creativity to our line-up and really help our powerplay.

“Robin gets the best out of the players around him and with Jan (Kostal) going back to ‘D’ getting a right-handed centre-man was important. It will give us a lot more options going forward.

“I know Robin is excited to get started and he’s going to be an important player for us for the rest of the season and in the playoffs.”
