The Coventry Blaze have completed the signing of Canadian centreman Marly Quince for the 2022-23 Elite League season.

The 28-year-old split last term between the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) and ECHL, scoring nine points (one goal, eight assists) in 11 appearances for the Fayetteville Marksmen and 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) in 40 games for the Norfolk Admirals.

Quince embarked upon his first professional campaign in 2019-20, producing 13 points (nine goals, four assists) in nine SPHL games for the Knoxville Ice Bears before notching a further nine points (four goals, five assists) in 26 ECHL appearances for the Reading Royals and South Carolina Stingrays.

Prior to entering the senior ranks, the 6-foot forward spent four seasons in the NCAA with Clarkson University, accumulating 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists) in 101 appearances while leading the team in face-off win percentage in his final two years at college.

“By adding Marly, we get a true centre who adds quality up the middle,” explained Coventry head coach Danny Stewart. “He plays a heavy style, goes to hard areas, offers a great 200-foot game, and can score. He finished last season very strong, and we are getting him at a good time in his career.”

Quince replaces Brock Trotter at the Skydome Arena, with the 35-year-old deciding not to join the West Midlands outfit for the upcoming season.

“We needed to act quickly after the Trotter news, and although Marly is a different style, we are fortunate to have found a quality centre at this time,” Stewart added. “He makes us better in the circle and is a guy who can play in all situations.”
